With an ever growing marketplace and opportunities aplenty, I would like to use this space to discuss the Marketing and Promotion techniques used to promote Sport pages and Applications on social media at this day and age. Specifically, I aim to discuss how Marketers draw consumers into liking their pages and engage with them. I will discuss new and innovative ways that people are using Social Media to make people feel compelled to follow their pages based on advertisements seen on Social Media and News Based Platforms.
The Use of Athletes for Sports Advertisement
This is no new concept, however it is quite clear that by using Athlete’s to endorse your products it is a good way of creating stimuli and engaging viewers in your posts. Most companies like to use saturate their social media’s with photo’s of Sportsmen and Sportswomen in order to enlighten their products and make it seem like they use the products themselves. As a consumer, the technique does certainly have an affect on my considerations for buying a product. A great example I found was in Powerade advertisements, which use famous Cricketers, Football players and the like in order to show what they are capable of doing for athletes. A recent advertisement which caught my attention was a promotional video of NHL player Jerome Iginla dribbling a puck around gatorade bottles and then shooting it into the net throwing gatorade everywhere, followed by an inspirational two line speech. As cliche as this advertisement was, it was engaging to its viewers, and instantly drew a picture between how this energy drink can affect a player and make’s it seem like an essential for professionalism in sport. For any Sports Advertisement, this is certainly a smart technique in order to immediately capture the essence of being a promotion for sport, which is essential if you are to be successful in selling Sports related products.

A taste for Success!
Following the recent start up of my tipping page, I am pleased to announce I am over the moon with the progress of the page thus far! The page has grown, and it is clear people are impressed with my knowledge. Having acquired knowledge of what works for sports marketing, I have used some of the techniques seen in previous posts.
What was most clear to me, is saturate your work with emoji’s! Many of the posts that I had seen were utilising emoji’s at the end of most sentences. This helps to break up what can be boring words, and provides a little description to the mood one if expressing!
Utilising humour is another thing which has been successful for many Facebook pages, therefore I have taken this on board to help engage with my viewers! Nothing over the top, but enough to make a reader smirk or drop a comment!
Responding to your comments is also a way of promoting yourself, as people commenting with raise the page in the newsfeed.
I have been implementing all these techniques I have learnt so far, and as I continue to research new strategies, I can apply new findings to my page moving forwards.

We’re off and racing!
After my various research into sports marketing, I have launched my Facebook page devoted to posting Horse Racing Tips, Gossip, and things people may not know about the world of Horse Racing! I began by inviting some of my Facebook friends to join in on the fun, as well as posting on Punters.com live forum to gain additional followers. So far I have received great feedback from the public, growing to Over 30 likes in the first 12 hours. I am excited for this next chapter, and hope to provide quality content for my followers, utilising the skills that I have learnt from my research into promotional marketing. This is only the beginning of my chapter, and there is a lot of work to be done, however I am confident I can use this space to create a positive horse racing community, and in turn provide engaging content for my following!

As seen from the post above, I have adapted some of the techniques I have talked about in previous posts, and am on track to becoming successful on the Facebook platform! Hopefully success continues, and we can watch the page grow.
May aswell go for it!
Given my research over the last few weeks, and studying various promotion techniques and ways to promote sports pages on Facebook and there socials, I have today decided to start a Facebook page about Horse Racing. I am more than aware of the negative stigma that Horse Racing has behind it, and the repercussions of addiction to gambling, however I see Horse Racing as just another sport which has taken multiple years to come to terms with understanding. My plans, are to talk about upcoming horse races, give my own thoughts and analysis of how the race will plan out, and collect a spreadsheet along the way; determining if my selections are good enough to actually be profitable if in fact one were to wager on them. I am excited for this new chapter, and am keen to share my knowledge of the sport that I love. Stay tuned for updates.
The Alpha of Sport Marketing
At this day and age, social media advertisement is essential for promoting a business and expressing the true colours of your Organisation. I believe, there is no one that flaunts their business better than Sportsbet. They tailor to their target audience far greater than and business that I can recall, utilising humour and satire at every given opportunity. As the target market is largely males who like sports and are aged from 18 and upwards, the way they advertise is unique and grabs the attention of anyone in this chasing target market. A recent campaign, as seen on TV, utilises Todd Carney who recently struck headlines with his “Bubbles” antics. Sportsbet, knowing this current trend, utilised this to their advantage and created a video advertisement that had me in hysterics. This isn’t the first time they’ve struck gold with their advertisements, as their marketing technique always seeks to utilise trends to their advantage, and is a serious credit which I’m sure has gained a return for effort.
a New tactic emerges
This weeks search for sport related promotion strategies saw a new trend emerging for Facebook based marketing. I had found two different companies who deployed a similar tactic; instead of having a having a paragraph of writing and a small, attention grabbing photo, these Sponsored promotions were taking up more space than the page could hold, making the consumer forced into reading the page and not accidentally scrolling past. Both advertisements used the same strategy, which was keep the text minimal, make the photo large and attention grabbing, and not easy to scroll past. I found this tactic quite annoying as a consumer, as it was annoying to navigate past – However this technique is a good way of making sure your sponsored Facebook posts are actually seen by potential customers, because it is very easy to pay for a sponsored post have have it be scrolled past, and therefore waste a paid for view.

Promotion Marketing
The first types of promotion I began to see were tipping pages attempting to sell their tips in exchange for money. The idea behind the marketing is simple, use emoji’s to gather their attention, a big attention grabbing photo with reference to the sport, and offer a code for exclusive promotions to their AFL and Racing tips. The majority of which show betting slips in their photos to entice the consumers, which to be fair they do a good job of. This type of marketing is affective and could easily draw in consumers like myself to click into their page and score more. For a paid advertising technique, I think this page did a very good job of being straight to the point and drawing the attention of customers. In terms of how engaging this type of post is for consumers, I believe people with interest in such services providers would be enticed in reading further into the page.

Through the eyes of the consumer
To determine current trends of sport’s promotions, the first step was to like page’s of many different organisation’s who promote sport within Australia. This includes pages such as the Advertiser, 7AFL, and Gambling Agency pages who often post provocative posts in order to trend issues and stay relevant. As you may know, the digital world is based off an algorithm which tracks the data we share with it, whether we like this or not. By following such pages on Facebook and Instagram, I will not only receive information from these companies, but also the promotion’s of similar organisations who often pay to promote their business on social media platforms. This is the first step in determining what trends are circulating, and how Marketers can attract new consumers and retain customers by the promotion of sporting events and exclusive deals. Stay tuned for my next post, as I delve into some of the techniques I have began to notice.
